Use AskReno in AI apps

Ask my real HDB renovation experience from Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini CLI or Claude Code.

AskReno is also an MCP server, a standard way for AI apps to use outside tools. Once it's connected, your AI app can ask AskReno whenever you talk about renovating in Singapore, and it answers from my own notes: what each trade cost, how long it took, and what I'd do differently. Pass holders also get the contractors and shops I used.

Before you start

You need an AskReno Pass (S$9.90 for 6 months, 30 questions a day). Questions from AI apps count towards the same 30 a day.
When you connect, you sign in with the email you paid with and a 6-digit code we email you. Lost your access code? Restore your pass.
The server address is https://askreno.sg/mcp

Claude (claude.ai, desktop and mobile apps)

Open Settings → Connectors.
Click Add custom connector. Name it AskReno and enter https://askreno.sg/mcp as the URL.
Click Connect. On the AskReno page, enter your pass email, type the 6-digit code from your inbox, and click Allow.
In a chat, ask a renovation question, or say "Ask AskReno …".

On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner may need to add the connector first.

ChatGPT

Open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced and turn on Developer mode.
Click Create. Name it AskReno, enter https://askreno.sg/mcp, and choose OAuth for authentication.
Sign in with your pass email and the 6-digit code, then click Allow.
In a chat, choose AskReno from the + menu and ask your question.

Developer mode is available on ChatGPT Plus and Pro.

Claude Code

Then type /mcp in Claude Code, choose askreno and sign in. Or install the plugin, which also adds an /askreno command:

Add this to ~/.gemini/settings.json, with the access code from your pass in place of YOUR_CODE:

Keep your access code private: anyone with it can use your daily questions.

Things to ask

How much did your whole renovation cost, and what did each trade cost?
Should I use an interior designer or hire contractors directly?
How long did hacking and wet works take?
Why did your renovation only start after Chinese New Year?
Which vinyl did you choose, and was the thicker one worth it?
What went over budget, and why?

What it can and can't do

It has one tool, ask_askreno. It only reads my notes and never changes anything in your account or apps.
It answers only from my own experience. If I haven't written about something, it says so instead of guessing.
It's one homeowner's experience, not professional advice. Confirm rules and permits with HDB, BCA or URA.
Your AI app may summarise or reword the answer. The original is what AskReno returned.

Problems connecting

No code in your inbox? Check your spam folder, and make sure you're using the email you paid with. Codes expire after 10 minutes.
"No active pass"? Your pass may have expired. Get a new one, then connect again.
Daily limit reached? Questions reset at midnight, Singapore time.
